I first made this for my husband when we first got hitched. He gagged at the idea of topping a hot dog with tomato and onion. So I always made chili dogs for him (mustard, onions, chili and shredded cheese) and I made Mexican hot dogs for myself. I like a chili dog here and there but I find this version of a hot dog much lighter. Anyway, after his friend, Albert, who had eaten them before in Mexico asked him if he likes ketchup on his hot dog....Tony replied with a definite yes. Albert continued with identifying the most important ingredient of ketchup: tomatoes! So how on Earth is it weird to top a hot dog with tomato. Tony tried it and loved it. A lesson for you kids and not so kids out there: Always try new foods, you might like it!
This hot dog is basically an organic beef frank, mayo, mustard (you can definitely put ketchup, miracle whip, whatever you normally put on your hot dog) topped with finely chopped onions and diced tomatoes. No need for the recipe. Easy, shmeezy!
Well, I'll be off to Mexico for a little less than a week to visit my rowdy family. My favorite aunt is super excited to cook for me; I cannot wait! I plan to take my camera and show you new recipes of homemade Mexican cooking - courtesy of my Tia Letty :)
The best thing about Mexico, other than seeing my family, is the yummy chamoyadas (shaved ice with chamoy) and elotes (grilled corn)....I can't wait to write about it.
